Looking for the best new translator of 2021 in cooperation with universities of Latvia

To interest students in pursuing a professional career as a translator, the competition The Best New Translator will take place for the thirteenth year already. This year it will take place in cooperation with ten Latvian universities – Baltic International Academy, Turība University, University College of Economics and Culture, Latvian Academy of Culture, University of Latvia, University of Liepāja, Rēzekne Academy of Technology, Rīga Stradiņš University, Riga Technical University and Ventspils University of Applied Sciences.

The biggest challenge for students this year, and simultaneously the advantage, is that the competition The Best New Translator will take place online. The competition takes place in two selection rounds, in which students are asked to translate texts from English, French and German into Latvian.

The first round of the competition will remain the same – the results will be evaluated by the representatives of universities this year as well. The final of the competition will take place online on 9 April 2021, and Memsource, the partner of the competition, will provide the platform for a successful competition, offering the opportunity to translate in one of the most modern translation tools (CAT). In this way, students will have the opportunity to experience the everyday life of a translator, and to work with a tool that is an integral part of the daily work of translators around the world.

The winner of the Best New Translator competition will receive a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 tablet, as well as an internship at the language company Skrivanek Baltic. The top 3 places will receive incentive prizes from the bookshop Jānis Roze. In addition, Skrivanek Baltic partner Memsource will provide free access to the translation tool to cooperating universities so that future translators can work more practically and experience how the use of such technologies benefits their professional careers, even after the competition.
