INTERVIEW WITH SKRIVANEK TRAINEE LORENZO PELLEGRINI
1. TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF – WHERE ARE YOU FROM, WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING, WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?
I’m from Senigallia, a small town on the east coast of Italy, and I’m studying translation and interpreting at Masters level. In my free time, I like to play sports. I like to run and watch football.
2. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO DO YOUR INTERNSHIP IN LATVIA?
I had the opportunity to visit Riga a year ago and I really liked it. So I decided to look for an internship in this city. Also, since I was studying Russian, Latvia seemed like a good place to practise the language.
3. HOW DO YOU LIKE BEING PART OF THE SKRIVANEK TEAM?
I love it! It’s a very friendly environment and I learn a lot from every colleague. I learn how to use CAT tools and get an insight into how a Translation Agency works.
4. HAVE YOU TRIED TO LEARN A LITTLE LATVIAN, AND DO YOU FIND IT DIFFICULT OR EASY?
I haven’t tried to learn it yet, but I probably will!
5. WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN RIGA/LATVIA?
I really like how big Riga is. It’s not too big and you can get anywhere on foot or by bus. There are a lot of shops, so it’s easy to find everything I want. It’s also full of young people from different countries, so you can easily find people who speak English.
6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IN RIGA/LATVIA?
I like different markets, so I really enjoyed visiting the Riga Central Market. There are many stalls selling both Latvian and foreign products, and lots of other things.
7. WHAT SURPRISED YOU WHILE LIVING IN RIGA/LATVIA?
I was very impressed by the number of grocery stores in this city; you are never more than 10 minutes away from a grocery store! And they are mostly open until late in the evening, which surprised me because in Italy most grocery stores close no later than 9pm.
8. HAVE YOU TRIED ANY OF THE LATVIAN DISHES AND WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I have tried the sweet and salty pancakes and they were delicious!
9. HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR FREE TIME HERE?
In my free time, I play sports and spend time with my flatmates. I also like to visit different sights, and Riga is a very good place to do that, because there is so much to see.
10. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER YOUR TRAINEESHIP?
After my internship, I will go back to Italy, defend my thesis and graduate.
